SUMMARY:10th Annual Desert Pattern Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Southwest Winter Championship Series \nThe Desert Pattern Challenge is a 3-day contest from March 01-03\, 2024 in Mesa Arizona. It takes place at Bohn Field\, home of the Florence Aeromodelers.\nThis is an AMA sanctioned AA event\, sanction #13955. \nSouthwest Winter Championships \nFor 2024 we are combining the Superstition Pattern Classic and the Desert Pattern Challenge (hosted the following weekend in nearby Florence) into a Winter Championship Series. The pilot competing in both contests with the lowest cumulative placing across the two will be named the Southwest Winter Champion for that class.\nContest Format \nWe will fly 6 rounds for each class (weather permitting)\, including 401 (Sportsman)\, 402 (Intermediate)\, 403 (Advanced)\, 404 (Masters)\, 406 (FAI–P&F)\, and FAI Silver (P-only). Any AMA legal airplane is allowed in Sportsman\, excluding those requiring Turbine or Large Model Airplane program waivers by the AMA. \nAll classes except 406 will fly their 2025 sequences for 6 rounds. 406 will fly 4 rounds of P and 2 rounds of F. \nMasters and FAI Silver will both fly the P25 sequence. Takeoffs and landings will be judged in Masters as they have in the past. FAI Silver takeoffs and landings will continue to not be judged. \nPractice will be available at the field on Thursday February 29th\nEntry Fees\nThe entry fee is $50 for all classes except Sportsman. The Sportsman entry fee is $25.\nFlying Field\nBohn Field is a first class facility in Florence \, Arizona with an paved runway\, large asphalt paddock\, Large covered Ramada\, and ample table room.\nThe address is Bohn Field HWY 79 4905 S Pinal Parkway\, Florence\,AZ \,85132\nGPS (32.985277\,-111.3575 )\nSchedule \nCompetition rounds will start on Friday and continue through Sunday. The field will be open to practice Friday morning. A pilots meeting will be held at 12:30 P.M. Friday\, with the first round starting at 1:00 P.M. We will do our best to get all 6 rounds in\, including going into late afternoon Sunday if necessary. The field will be open for practice after the rounds are completed each day. \nNote: This is the plan\, but the schedule is subject to change based on weather and entries. Be ready to fly starting Friday morning through Sunday afternoon to participate in all rounds. \nPlease register at the NSRCA.US site.
